A Saturday in Spring…

Posted by on March 31, 2012

A week from now Easter Saturday will be here again.

For some, a day after Good Friday, for others the beginning of a hopefully sunny weekend in spring. For many children it will be a happy day  hunting easter eggs and painting and dipping hardboiled eggs in easter colours to decorate Easter Sunday’s breakfast table.

In the past it was in North America also a day of watching colourful easter parades with ladies and young girls showing off their fancy easter hats. In many  countries in the world, children save their candies throughout the six weeks fasting time.  After 12:00 PM on Easter Saturday their parents allow them to open their collected sweets to share with one another.

Just like we love to decorate a Christmas tree

it’s fun to hang up easter decorations on bare branches or even on branches cut from a forsythia tree which you can put in a large empty spring water bottle. If the branches are blooming put them in water so they will last longer. If using a bare branch with many sidebranches fill the large water bottle with sand or tiny stones to keep the branch securely in its place. Or make a smaller tabletop decoration of evergreens, a magnolia or forsythia branch and easter egg decorations and a candle in the middle. Such as the Christmas table decoration in the photo below. Ideal for a lovely setting on the Easter table and with a bit of imagination, adaptable for other occasions throughout the year as well.

An Easter weekend in spring to really look forward, too.
