Frequently in childhood we utter:

“Mommy, please read me a story”
Mom will ask:
“What will it be?”
“Peter the Rabbit, Mommy!”

It would have been very sweet
Even if it were only once to meet
Beatrix Potter
The famous English illustrator and children’s author.

For a young child how much fun
It would have been to run
Through the English forest in the rain
And to meet Beatrix critters on the farm and lane.

To chat about this and that
And play with the author’s lively dog and cat
Oh what a joyful memory it would be
If we could have shared a cup of tea.
