December Holidays Around the World…

Merry Christmas

sounds beautiful said or sung in nine different countries in Africa.

The pronunciation will most likely be a bit different for a foreigners tongue and ears.

With the exception perhaps if you are in South Africa and someone wishes you a

“Geseënde Kersfees”

and you happened to be a visitor from The Netherlands.

In English this would be “Blessed Christmas Feast”  or in other words

“Merry Christmas”!

A youngster dressed in lovely holly greenery would certainly be good Christmas company anywhere with or without snow.

Enchanted it must be when one lives in Zimbabwe and someone wishes you a

“Merry Kisimusi”.

I guess “Kisimusi” may also stand for “Christmas Feast” or “Merry Christmas” but there is more to it!

My ears make me think about “mistletoe, drums and the singing of the sweet voices of the carollers.

Who knows what dreamy Christmas descriptions one could come up with while listening to the other

7 African Christmas wishes.
