Easter Fare
By
Gypsy Joy.

Yesterday I met a hare
In his tattered tent in the wood
He was in a jolly good mood
Decorating his Easter fare.

The hare brought me in an Easter mood and via the web I visited the Moai statues on Rapa Nui “Easter Island”, the Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. As always I was very intrigued by the astonishing Moai statues scattered around on Easter Island.  I was astound to learn that scientists last year showed to the world that the Moai “walked” from the quarry where they were carved to the places they are found.

After watching the show I wrote this poem:

Moai Mystery…

Easter Island’s Moai never talk
But science made one Moai model walk
Because of this fantastic show
Moai’s mystery we now know.

It’s told in history that Rapa Nui was discovered by the Dutch on Easter Sunday, 5 April 1722 by Jacob Roggeveen who on August 1, 1721 left on an expedition for the Dutch West India Company, to seek Terra Australis.
