Garden Miracles…

Posted by on April 11, 2012

One day I experienced a lot of difficulty taking out a conifer in our garden. I really needed to get it done because once you start with a garden job you better finish it as soon as possible. You never know how much other work is left for you the next day or the weather might suddenly change into a rainy or stormy day delaying the garden chore.

My favorite garden Saint Fiacre, also known as St. Fiacra, is often the one I ask for garden help when I desperately need a helping hand and no one is around. Magic wands and faeries are hard to come by, though the late Sir James Matthew Barrie probably would disagree if he through the heavenly grapevine would hear about it and look into our garden where a few dwarfs make their home.

Sometime before I dug up the conifer I had read about St. Fiacre on the web how he had cleared in one night a lot of land and was considered in Europe “the garden Saint” to call upon when one experiences hard to solve garden problems. Needless to say my trust in St. Fiacre’s guiding hand was successful. Sometimes one cannot have enough heavenly helpers and the company of slithering garden friends resting on a rock to help a mere mortal to bring a task to a good end.

Recently, I read more about this noble garden saint originally from Ireland and thought to be of Scottish royal blood who lived as a healing and gardening hermit in France and died there in 670. In Paris, France, the good saint became also known as the patron of the cab drivers. More interesting facts about St. Fiacre’s life on:
