Hieronymus Bosch 500

It’s a great pleasure to write
about two of my favorite painters today.
“Man proposes, God disposes.”
An 1864 painting by the English painter
Sir Edwin Henry Landseer,
inspired by the search for
Captain Sir John Franklin’s
lost expedition in the Canadian Arctic
after their departure from England in 1845.

The Landseer Newfoundland* dog (*Canada)
is named after Sir Edwin Henry Landseer.

On February 12th, 2016, His Majesty,
King Willem Alexander of The Netherlands,
opened and visited the 500 year grotesque
celebration exhibition of the paintings of
Hieronymus Bosch
aka Jheronimus and Jeroen (Jerome) Bosch
born in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands
in 1450 who passed away on Aug. 9,1516.
To celebrate the occasion
I wrote a poem, titled:
St. Jan’s Cathedral City…
The Dutch city
of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Lowlands
Is known as “Bois le Duc” by the French
As “Duchy’s Woods” by the English
But let’s not bother about linguistics.
I like to tell rather
Why many in this Cathedral City gather
On their “Bosche” market square;
You see by snow, rain or weather fair
Hieronymus statue is always on guard there.
Reminding every passerby
Of the “Seven Sins” we must deny
Disguised as Envy, Sloth, Gluttony
And Pride, they will lead
Us to Wrath, Lust and Greed.
After the Garden of Eden came to extinction
God send us His only Son for our salvation
Hieronymus
Painted a fantasy garden scene
Of the ways the cardinal sins intervene.
