Cottage Memories

There was a time in Ontario when one
could rent a cottage that did not
“cost an arm and a leg”.
We all have heard these wise sayings,
if not “smart words” is the link to check.

Nature’s stuff came to my mind the other day
when I wrote about fun with seeds.
Our children and I used to collect driftwood,
pebbles, pinecones, small rocks, stones,
shells, flowers and small plants.
The small plants we planted in the garden.
It was a pleasure to see them grow.
Driftwood, pebbles, pinecones, rocks,
shells and stones were used in many
creations and other ways to adore the
gardens as well as the potted plants.
This morning, I read
“Cloudy is the Stuff of Stones”
by Anthony Doerr.

I feel no longer alone in my attraction
to all nature offers us amply and asks
only, to be respected so future generations
may enjoy its loveliness, too.
The pebble story touched me deeply.
It’s written so tender and beautifully.
Exquisite are the words chosen to
express
the author’s passion and admiration
for the beauty of the world around us.
With thanks to the artist and makers enjoy, too:
