Sing-a-Long
by
*Gypsy Joy*
I am a wandering gypsy.
~Lady Gaga~
This sing-a-long is great fun when performed
in a field, a backyard, cottage, church recreation
room, summer school or an elementary school.
Stage:
Use your imagination for the stage.
For example use plush toys and artificial
trees and flowers, or a few kids dressed
as forest creatures, gnomes or fairies
scattered here and there.
Leave an open space for the choir,
the drummer & gypsy boy and girl to perform.
Singers:
3 singers are needed for the 4 couplets.
Only 1 girl & 1 boy dress up as gypsies.
The 3rd singer singing the questions
should stand out by wearing a Top Hat.
Choir members:
As many singers as are available.
For the girls & boys a bow tie or
e.g.
a hair accessory for girls and
a bow tie for boys in a unified colour.
The Play:
The drummer opens the play with a few beats.
In betweeen the couplets being sung
the drummer also beats his drum.
At the end of the play the drummer beats
his drum till the curtain falls.
The girl or boy questioning the gypsies,
moves from one gypsy to the other
wen she sings to them. Thereafter she,
mingles with the forest creatures.
The gypsy girl sings, dances and mingles
with the forest creatures.
The gypsy boy sings and throws his lasso,
making sure he does not rope anyone.
The creatures quietly do their own thing
Now you all know what to do, the fun of
learning your role begins!

A fun Musical Play
by
*Gypsy Joy*
To be performed by
1 drummer, 3 singers, a choir and a few
animal toys or players as told above.
When the curtain goes up
the drummer beats a few fast beats.
First singer, a boy or girl sings:
Oh tell me Gypsy Joy
Are you a gypsy girl
Or a gypsy boy.
The drummer beats a few fast beats.
Second singer, a gypsy girl sings:
I am a girl not a boy
I am a tomboy and enjoy
Moon-dancing and being called Gypsy Joy.
The drummer beats on his drum and announces:
All together now!
The choir sings:
She enjoys playing make-believe
Loves being a tomboy
Dancing at night by the moon
Playing a gypsy tune
And being called Gypsy Joy.
The drummer beats a few fast beats.
The first singer sings:
Throw your rope Gypsy Joy
Are you a girl or a boy
Is your lasso just a toy.
The drummer beats a few fast beats.
The gypsy boy sings :
Can’t you see I’m a gypsy cowboy
My lasso is not a toy
Throwing my rope I truly enjoy.
The drummer beats on his drum and announces:
All together now!
The choir sings:
He enjoys playing make-believe.
Likes throwing his rope and tease the
forest creatures till they start to run.
Then, by the magic of a campfire he enjoys
a bit of pleasant gypsy fun.
The drummer beats a few fast beats.
Hereafter all singers, the drummer and
“creature” performers bow and sing
WOW-WOW-WOW
That was great fun!
Then they bow again while the drummer
beats his drum till the curtain falls.
Success and have fun!
