“National Seniors Day

is an occasion for all Canadians to appreciate and celebrate seniors,” proclaimed The Honourable Alice Wong Minister of State (Seniors) on September 30, 2011.

“Canada’s Seniors dedicated their lives to our country — they deserve our thanks as they continue to be influential mentors and leaders in our communities.”

And thus Canada celebrated today on this lovely sunny and joyful autumn day on the first day of October, 2013 for the third year,

National Seniors Day.

Mother Nature really has done her utmost best to make this a splendid day. I hope this day has been indeed a memorial day for all Seniors in the world as Canada along with “The United Nations International Day” celebrates this very special day.

Nowadays seniors are often called Zoomers and a.k.a. Boomers.
However before the Booming Zoomers who are now zooming around and who were at one time also called Yuppies, there were other Seniors who are happily still among us and who, too,  have done a lot for their family, Canada and the World.

Therefore, I like to celebrate with a pumpkin and garden flowers and to dedicate “Ode to Seniors” to all Seniors throughout the world regardless of the year they were born in, meaning before or after 1946 and salute them with a smile and an appreciative rhyme.

Ode to Seniors…

The world would have been forlorn
Without Seniors who helped out when we were born
They made us smile wiped away our tears
Taught us how to survive and have no fears
Their guidance made us smart
They showed us how to work hard
To behave and be neighbourly
So when we would raise our own family
We would strife
To pass on the virtues of life.
