The Canadian Sailboat that got away…

Dedicated to my maternal Grandfather
who deeply loved the Dutch Rivers and the Sea
and would have loved to explore
the Canadian waters.

Have you heard about the Canadian sailboat Mr. Storm blew away
Though all alone she did not feel afraid no way
She danced on the rough empty ocean like a ballet star
Enjoyed its adventure till she got beached afar
On a small Arctic Island
Between Baffin Island and the Melville Peninsula.

Mostly alone for thirteen years
And too proud to shed some tears
The sailboat kept its mast high
In the sunny, stormy, snowy, cold and icey sky

A visit from a polar bear seemed cool
Till the bear acted like a fool
And pawed the sailboat windows.

At times a bird would fly by
Or a plane would soar high up in the sky
When the sailboat spotted a boat in the distance
She tried to twirl and dance
When Santa flew by on X-Mas Eve she felt dumbfound
She had made the loudest squeaky sound
In the hope the wind would carry it far around
But not even
Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer seemed to hear it.

Recently on one sunny day
A boat with polar bear researchers was on its way
When Mother Sun
Send some of her shiniest beams just for fun
To set the sailboat who felt a bit low
In a majestic glinstering glow
Low and behold it caught their eye.

The Polar Bear researchers knew about
Elijah Evaluarjuk sailboat’s plight
 And found to their delight
On that isolated Arctic Island the missing sailboat
Aye Aye she will need to be towed
But she seems pretty solid and sound
What a bootie we have found
Laughed the Polar Bear researchers.

The missing sailboat is back in Nunavut at last
Catching up on the 13 years of her past
Having boat friends to chat and kid with
Greatly help to keep her fit
You see
Nothing is better than good company
Aye Aye in Nunavut all is swell.
