2016 Is a special year for Roman Catholics
in Midland, Ontario, as well as tourists
and pilgrims and last but not least
the Jesuit Priests.

Among the opening of the present Church
On the Hill and the opening of the 89 km
Off-road Pilgrim Route, it is also the
90th anniversary of Canada’s National
Shrine of the Canadian Jesuit Martyrs.

This is Canada’s only National Shrine
outside of Quebec.

History of the martyrs, a map and more on:

St. Kateri Tekakwitha who was the daughter
of a Christian Algonquin mother and a
Mohawk father in upstate New York,  was
baptized by a Jesuit missionary in 1676.
When she was 20, she fled to Canada
and died in Canada at the age of 24.

It’s therefore that I like to
dedicate
this Sunday blog to the Canadian Martyrs
and St. Kateri Tekakwitha.
