Ireland…

Marvel of the green, the lucky shamrock, the land of colourful rainbows and the mystique of druids and the wee faery folks. Leprechauns with their pot of gold, medieval castles, ruins, harps and the river dance. Above all  St. Patrick  who arrived on the emerald island as a slave and became known as the enemy of the snake.

“I ask you sir, which country in the world can boast about a culture as rich as the Irish”,

said a sweet looking lady dressed in an old Irish costume she had donned on especially for the occasion, in a tone one could not avoid but would have to answer to. The elderly gentleman watching the St. Patricks parade in the streets of “Toronto the Good” as the city of Ontario once was known, replied smilingly:

“No one Ma’am has more interesting and amusing tales to tell than the Irish”.

Tipping his green hat he slowly moved a bit more into the crowd to have a closer look at the clowns in the parade.

The sweet lady turned to another onlooker and continued her chat.

The gentleman kept moving on seemingly very delighted with all the happenings around him.

Though some of the people watching the parade turned their heads because they thought that they had seen him before and some even scratched their head as if in disbelieve and stared at him as if he were a ghost, no one came up to him.

That is, until he passed by a young boy dressed up as a leprechaun.

The boy took one look at him and danced up and down excitedly yelling:

“How can’t be! There goes St. Patrick!”

Instantly the youngster rushed after the gentleman while his Mom worriedly shouted at her son:

“come immediately back, don’t be a foolish laddie!”

The young lad did not seem to hear his Mom. As he looked up at the gentleman he said excitingly:

“You are St. Patrick! How cool! How cool is that!”

and then turned around rushing back to his Mom.

By now the crowd gathered nearer to have a close look at the gentleman the young man had greeted as St. Patrick.

However,

the gentleman had vanished and all they saw were the same people who had been there all along to watch the parade.

Now, if they only had looked up to the sky as the young boy did standing next to his Mom, they, too, may have seen a

glimpse of St. Patrick peeking down from behind the cloud

watching the rest of the St.Patrick’s parade in “Toronto the Good”.

As it is with many marvelous things…

only the very young and the young at heart are able to grasp the magic that surrounds our wonderful world.
