Winter Poems

In the Pacific Northwest
Mother Nature creates her best
On spruce, birch and other trees
Where the burl it seems
Grows with the trees sometimes in a cluster
The invasion is not considered a tree buster.
There’s no real concern here
Since the growth does not kill the tree
Thought off by the science media
As a tumor caused by fungi, insects or bacteria
Transmitted by leafhoppers or aphids
No one is sure that’s what it is.
The plant tissue begins life as a gall
It may stay small or become massive, strong and tall
The artists and scientists do not loth
The spherical woody growth
They love to see it grow on the trunk of a tree
It provides work and stimulates science and creativity.
