Every place in the world has its legends and Argentina has at least 4 popular stories to tell about

“The Gauchito Gil”, “La Difunta Correa”, “Telesita” and “The Pombero”.

The Pombero

supposedly started off by being the protector of the birds in the forest.

But the little man turned out to be a nuisance to the farmers and people in the villages where he traveled through. His mischievous spells make people drop dishes and do other things they normally would not do. Being in his present makes children throw tantrums, grown-ups cranky, old people forgetful, furnaces, stoves etc. to stop working, farmers crops to fail and so on.

Too many unfortunate things happen when The Pombero is passing through. Needless to say The Pombero became to be thought off as a little monster, feared by many and liked by no one.

The next time when things go wrong, the kids are unruling and telling you there is a boogie man underneath their bed or you start forgetting things, don’t panic, most likely there is a little Pombero somewhere hiding nearby, and all that went wrong will pass as soon as the little monster is on its way to other horizons.

How does The Pombero look???

A guess for you and me, but he seems to be pretty short, has black long hair, wears a straw hat and has a mischievous look on his face. I have the feeling that he looks a bit like the little mischievous man with the blindfold. You will know what I mean when you watch him pushing the street organ pictured on the video below while the Dutch Cabaret singer La Pat Patty Trossèl is exhausting herself pulling the street organ.

Enjoy the video and unless you are a bird living in the forest or in a park or garden, watch out for The Pombero! You will know he is around when the world seems to fall apart or if you are a farmer and your crops fail.
