Day 8
Tsuu T’ina’s Iron Shield…
There once was a Canadian wizard
Who wished to honour
A Tsuu T’ina veteran of the land.
He invited all the fairies
To come to his castle
And give him a helping hand.
Upon their arrival
He startled them when he requested
The use of their precious wand.
The fairy queen ever so wise
Asked the wizard to fully explain
His intention.
A fay’s wand the fairy queen told
Was a fairy’s to behold
Without any question.
The wizard apologized and sighed
He did not mean to upset anyone
Just to thank a vet of the local Battalion.
R.I.P.
Harold Crowchild known as Iron Shield
Who passed away on January 12, 2013
At the age of 97.
Upon hearing this the fays flew
With their queen, wizard and wand
To form a heart above Tsuu T’ina land.
It was their loving salute
To a Tsuu T’ina veteran of WWII
Who served in the 4th Canadian Armoured Regiment.
In the United Kingdom, France and The Netherlands
Iron Shield gave his all for world peace
To bring an end to WWII’s torment.
NOTE:
Harold Crowchild
was also the last surviving veteran of the war from any of the Treaty 7 First Nations.
Not only a highly decorated soldier
Iron Shield
was known as a genuine cowboy and First Nations elder.
